Privacy Policy
How HaT handles your personal information. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. Who handles your information
HaT is operated by its founder as a sole trader (ABN 93 500 781 614). If you have a privacy question or want to access or correct your information, contact us through our Support page.
2. What we collect
- Account details — your name, email, mobile number, and (for tradies) business details, ABN, licences, and insurance documents. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider.
- Property details — the addresses and property information you add so jobs can live against a home.
- Job details — what you describe about the work, the offers and bookings, and the job history.
- Chat and triage content — messages you exchange, including your conversation with our AI triage assistant that helps scope the job.
- Photos — images you upload of the job and, from tradies, completion photos used as evidence.
- Payment information — handled by Stripe. HaT never sees or stores your full card number; we hold records of amounts, status, and payout details needed to run the marketplace.
- Usage data — pages you visit and basic device information, collected through cookies and similar technologies by the analytics and advertising tools described in section 4.
3. Why we collect it
We use your information to run the marketplace: to scope jobs, match you with verified local tradies, take and hold payment, coordinate and complete bookings, resolve disputes, keep the platform safe and lawful, and contact you about your jobs. We do not sell your personal information.
4. Who can see what
Our anonymity model is built into the product. Before you book, tradies see your job and only a suburb-level location — never your exact address, phone number, or full name. Once you book a tradie, that tradie gets the exact address and the contact details needed to do the job, because they are coming to your home. Public profiles and reviews show suburb-level location only and mask reviewer names.
We share information with service providers who help us operate — for example Stripe (payments), our authentication provider (sign-in), and our messaging and hosting providers — only as needed to run the service. We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to investigate fraud, safety, or a breach of our Terms.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and the Meta Pixel to measure our advertising and build advertising audiences. The pixel shares site-activity signals (such as the pages you visit) with Meta. Neither tool receives your job content, messages, or payment details.
HaT staff can access job messages and transaction records for support, dispute resolution, and safety — this access is logged.
5. How long we keep it, and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as long as we need it to meet legal, tax, dispute, and fraud-prevention obligations. Chat content tied to a booking is retained while it may be needed as dispute evidence and cleaned up afterwards.
When you delete your account we anonymise your personal information — we sever it from your identity rather than keeping a named profile — while retaining the minimum transaction records the law requires. Anonymisation on deletion also purges any consent you gave for your job to appear in a public portfolio.
You can start this yourself from your account settings (“Delete my account and data”), or ask us through the Support page.
6. Your privacy rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can ask to access the personal information we hold about you and to correct it if it is wrong. Contact us through the Support page and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with how we handle a privacy issue, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
7. Security and storage
We protect your information with access controls and encryption in transit, and we limit who and what can read each record. Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia; where they do, we take reasonable steps to see it is handled consistently with the APPs.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as HaT grows. When we make a material change we will publish the updated version here. For how these terms sit alongside the rest of the agreement, see our Terms of Service.
This policy is a working draft pending professional legal review.
